Kerr Dental has announced the release of Demi™ Pro, a cordless curing light developed to provide consistent, uniform curing performance while supporting clinician comfort and access across a range of restorative procedures. Designed for use by both dentists and dental assistants, the device integrates ergonomic handling, optical performance, and safety-oriented features intended to align with contemporary clinical workflows.
Ergonomics and Handling
Demi™ Pro incorporates a lightweight, balanced aluminum body with a pen-style grip aimed at reducing hand strain during repetitive use. According to internal usability testing, the device’s low-profile design allows clinicians and assistants to maintain control across multiple procedures with less fatigue than is commonly associated with larger curing units.
Access and Tip Design
The device features a low-profile curing tip capable of 360-degree rotation, allowing access to posterior regions and areas with limited interarch space. This design supports improved positioning, visibility, and stability during curing.
"The Demi Pro curing light is very lightweight and made curing at every angle comfortable," said Dr. Shahira Saad, DDS. "The rotating head and balance of the handpiece reduce strain while letting me position the light exactly where I need it."
Optical Performance
Demi™ Pro is engineered with a focus on beam quality rather than peak irradiance alone. Internal verification testing, supported by evaluations from Bluelight Analytics, indicates competitive irradiance levels alongside consistent beam uniformity at clinical working distances. This approach is intended to reduce the likelihood of under-cured material in deeper restorations. The device operates across a broad spectral range (approximately 380–515 nm, depending on mode), supporting polymerization of a wide range of restorative materials.
Safety and Output Verification
The system incorporates several features intended to support safe and consistent operation:
An integrated radiometer for real-time output verification
Tip mismatch detection to prevent incorrect tip usage
Overheating protection using Periodic Level Shifting (PLS) Technology to manage thermal output during extended curing cycles
LED display with audiovisual indicators to provide immediate feedback during use
These elements are designed to help clinicians monitor performance while maintaining patient and operator comfort.
Transillumination Capability
An optional transillumination tip (sold separately) enables chairside diagnostic use by illuminating tooth structure. This feature may assist in identifying cracks, caries, and other structural abnormalities that may be less visible under standard operatory lighting, allowing clinicians to integrate diagnostic and treatment steps within a single platform.
Clinical Modes
Demi™ Pro includes multiple operating modes—Standard, High Power, Ortho, and Diagnostic Transillumination—allowing users to adjust output parameters according to procedural requirements while maintaining thermal and optical performance.
Company Perspective
"Demi Pro represents Kerr's commitment to innovation that delivers real clinical value," said Wyatt Hanson, VP of Portfolio and Marketing. "By combining intuitive ergonomics, dependable performance, and advanced diagnostic support, we are helping clinicians work with greater precision and confidence. This launch continues our focus on bringing purposeful innovation to restorative dentistry."
Product Manager Cameron Hume adds, "Demi™ Pro was designed so clinicians don't have to compromise between comfort, access, and consistent optical performance."
